About the event
Gannets dive in to the water at up to speeds of 60mph to catch their prey, which includes large fish such as Mackerel, Pollock and Herring. This workshop is designed to capture images of these incredible birds as they gather together in feeding frenzies, diving in to the sea in their hundreds. Following a 4 hour boat trip we will then head to the near by nature reserve to capture the gannets and other seabirds as they nest in huge colonies just below our feet. We expect to see more Gannets, Puffins, Razorbills, Guillemots, Kittiwakes and more!
We will be departing from Bridlington Harbour in the morning (sailing time TBC) and sailing around Flamborough Headland and then along to Bempton Cliffs. We will be chumming (throwing dead fish) to encourage the Gannets close to the boat, giving us excellent opportunities to capture images of these stunning birds diving in to the sea, surfacing with their fish and often fighting each other over their catch.
We will return to Bridlington after a 4 hour cruise where will take a short break for lunch before making the short drive to the nature reserve to explore the nesting bird colonies. Here we can get a different perspective on the wildlife and capture them in the final stages of the breeding season - fingers crossed we may even see the Puffins bringing in the sand eels at this time of year!
Throughout the boat trip you can expect some fantastic scenary and wildlife to photograph. Numerous seabirds will be out on the water and we will also stop off at the seal colony, where inquistive seals will approach our boat. There is always the possibility of some cetacean sightings - Dolphins and Porpoise are commonly scene as is the occasional Minke Whale.
Photographers of all levels are welcome, tips and photography advice will be provided through the day.
